The Church of the Deposition of the Robe of the Most Holy Theotokos occupies a special place in the architectural ensemble of Cathedral Square. It is located between the Assumption Cathedral and the Faceted Chamber. Founded in the 15th century, this temple was named in honor of the feast of the Deposition of the Robe of the Most Holy Theotokos. For several centuries, it was part of the metropolitan court and served as a household church for the metropolitans and patriarchs of Russia.

The iconostasis and wall paintings of this small cozy church form a unified artistic ensemble. The gallery of the church hosts a permanent exhibition of Russian wooden sculpture. Since few monuments of this type of art have survived, each of them is of significant interest and value.
