The village of Strunino has been known since 1492. Its name is associated with Fyodor Strun Sukhoryin, who lived in the 15th century in Pereslavl, from whom the Strunins, minor landowners, descended. According to another version, Ivan the Terrible, on his way to Alexandrovskaya Sloboda, stopped here for hunting, which gave the name "Strunino." One of the main attractions of Strunino is the Transfiguration Church, the construction of which began in 1893.

The construction of the church is linked to the name of Asaf Baranov, the founder of the factory from which the village of Strunino grew. He allocated funds for the construction of the temple, which was built in the western part of the village, near the railway. The construction was completed in 1898, and the first priest was Alexey Rozhdestvensky.

The Transfiguration Church had three altars: in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, and Saint Josaphat, the patron saint of Baranov. In the 1930s, the church was closed and partially destroyed. The bells were removed, the bell towers were dismantled, and the altar was bricked up. The wall paintings, created by Florentine masters, were whitewashed. The church was converted into a space that later housed the district social security office, then the registry office, the city education department, and the land department. In the 1950s, the church was almost completely destroyed, and a new building for the pioneers' house was constructed on its foundation and parts of the walls.

Only in 1990 was the church returned to the believers, and its restoration began. A new dome was installed, and the bell tower was rebuilt. Today, the Transfiguration Church is a brick church in eclectic style and is an important spiritual and historical monument of Strunino. It has three chapels: the central one, the Transfiguration of the Lord, the left one, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the right one, the holy martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and Sophia.
