The village of Babino-Bulygino, located on the right bank of the Oka River, is first mentioned as a village in the land and boundary books of 1628-1629. These documents also mention wooden churches dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ and St. Paraskeva, known as Friday, which were well equipped with church utensils. In the revenue book of Kasimov from 1676, among all the churches in the city, only the church of the Resurrection of Christ is mentioned in Babenki.

According to the land books of Kasimov from 1684, a side chapel in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos already existed in this village at the church of the Resurrection of Christ. A stone church, replacing the wooden one and dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord, was built in 1740. The main altar in this temple was originally also called the Resurrection altar. The builder of the church is considered to be the Kasimov commissioner Fyodor Savich Skornyakov. The date of the consecration of the main altar is unknown. The warm chapel in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos was consecrated in 1787. In 1788, with the blessing of the bishop, a new iconostasis was installed and the walls of the church were painted. The church was also renamed to the Transfiguration Church, which was supported by the parishioners.

According to the clerical report for 1915, the church and bell tower were made of stone. A brick fence with wooden grilles and two gates was built around the church.

The church had two altars: the main one in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and in the chapel, in the name of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos. The church owned a stone building of the parish school, built in 1915.
