Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Timiryazevo

Фото 1
The church was built in 1766 along with the refectory and bell tower. In the mid-19th century, a baptistery appeared at the southern wall of the bell tower. In 1910, a symmetrical northern chapel and deacon's room were added to the southern chapel and baptistery. The brick building is covered with whitewash. The stone fence surrounding the church has not survived. To the northeast of the temple is a brick storage building from the late 18th century, square in plan and covered with a vaulted ceiling. This is one of the best monuments of cult architecture in the eastern part of the region, executed in the traditions of ancient Russian architecture of the mid-17th century with elements of baroque.

The temple is a two-tiered square with five onion-shaped domes on blind drums with light facets. It is adjoined by a narrowed five-sided apse and a wide refectory with semicircular altar projections extending onto the side walls of the main volume. The three-tiered tented bell tower rises above the lower square, which is closed on three sides by later additions. The tall pillar-like octagon transitions into the ringing tier and is topped with a high tent with three rows of windows and a small onion-shaped dome.

The facade decor includes a narrow rustication in two rows of bricks, applied to the corners of the square, apse, and bell tower pillar, transitioning to the supports of the ringing arches. A frieze of false zakomars-kokoshniks at the top of the square rests on a wide cornice with rows of consoles, niches, and a decorative strip. The plastic accents are large window frames with side columns, at the windows of the second light, with melon-shaped decorations and high baroque finishes with arched stepped eyebrows. On the facades of the apse and refectory, the eyebrows are applied to the crowning cornice. On the northern wall of the square, a partially preserved perspective portal of the door opening features a gently arching arc and assembled columns. The lower tier of the bell tower, open from the west, is completed with a triangular pediment. Narrow vertical overlay boards with circles in the middle are located on the faces of the octagon, and the tent is decorated with a pyramid of three small keel-shaped kokoshniks.

The internal space of the square is covered with a trough vault with converging peaks. The altar apse, connected to the church by three arched openings, has a box vault that transitions into a three-trough vault. The southern chapel is covered with a box vault with a trough at the southern end, while the northern chapel has a trough vault.
