Syntul was founded in 1786 and got its name from the Syntulka River, on whose right bank it is located. The settlement arose around an iron foundry opened by the German Bolens in the same year. In 1787, the foundry was acquired by college assessor Andrei Batashov from Tula. The Syntul foundry was part of the parish of the Intercession Church of the village of Makkaveevo in the Kasimov district, and its workers made up a significant part of the parish.

After the 1917 revolution, the foundry became public property. Syntul quickly developed as an industrial center and received the status of a workers' settlement in 1927. The reconstruction of the foundry was completed by 1939. By this time, the village of Makkaveevo ceased to exist as a separate settlement, merging with Syntul. The wooden Intercession Church, previously located in Makkaveevo, now belongs to the territory of Syntul. The history of this church is closely linked to the history of the village. Makkaveevo is mentioned in the census books of the Vladimir province from 1678. The church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was founded in 1679 with the blessing of Patriarch Joachim. By the mid-19th century, a chapel was built on the site of the old church.

For the construction of a new Intercession Church with a Nicholas chapel, instead of the old dilapidated one, the Vladimir Bishop Hieronymus gave his blessing on November 13, 1780, at the request of the peasant Trofim Kosmin. In 1782, the construction and consecration of both the main church in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the chapel were completed. At the same time, a bell tower was built, which was renovated in 1829. In 1839, the church clergy and the elder received permission to cover the church with iron. By 1890, the outer walls were sheathed with planks and painted, while the interior was adorned with paintings.

In 1865, a warm church in honor of the All-Merciful Savior with a Friday chapel was built in Makkaveevo for winter services, but without a bell tower. It was consecrated on October 30, 1866. The church had a watchman's lodge. In Syntul, a one-class church-parish school operated, which was housed in its own building and funded by the Ryazan Diocesan School Council.
