The first mention of a wooden Old Believer chapel in the village of Molvitino dates back to 1849. The history of the brick church's creation is linked to the name of a graduate of the Kostroma Theological Seminary, Archpriest Alexei Mikhailovich Iordansky. In 1861, upon arriving in Molvitino, Father Alexei began the construction of a stone church on the site of an old Old Believer prayer house that had already fallen into disrepair. In 1876, the new church with chapels in honor of the Ascension of the Lord and the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God was completed and consecrated. At the time construction began, the parish had only 100 members, while the Resurrection parish had several thousand parishioners. In 1882, a tent-like bell tower was built next to the church, and between 1901 and 1904, a new refectory with a chapel in the name of St. Nicholas of Myra was constructed. The project was developed by architect N.I. Gorlytsyn. The church was built with donations from two merchants, parishioners of the church, Andrei Alexandrovich Sandalin and Vasily Ivanovich Zinin.

In the 1930s, the church was closed and desecrated. Its premises were alternately used as a carpentry workshop, a warehouse, a bakery, and by the end of the Soviet era, even a pub. During this time, the church suffered, and the bell tower was demolished. In 1990, the church building was returned to the faithful, and services began to be held there, becoming the only ones in the village of Susanino. Next to the church, a watchman's lodge, a charitable institution, and a clergy house have been preserved. The main building is a two-light, two-pillar square, topped with a decorative five-domed structure. The main altar, the Intercession and Ascension altar, is located in the refectory, along with the St. Nicholas chapel.
