The Intercession Church is an interesting architectural monument in the pseudo-Russian style, notable for its massiveness and expressiveness. The main volume of the building is adorned with diagonally oriented corner pilasters and buttresses, as well as a decorative five-domed structure.

This single-altar stone church is located in the village of Shakhovskoye, which previously belonged to the Khvalynsky district of the Saratov province, now in the Pavlovsky district of the Ulyanovsk region. It was built in 1878 through the efforts of landowners Ryabinin and Mikhailov and consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin. The church is situated on an elevation in the center of the village and dominates the landscape due to its significant size and clear outlines. The building is made of brick with cross masonry, the facades are plastered, and the roof is made of iron on wooden trusses.

A distinctive feature of the temple is the wide diagonally oriented pilasters at the corners. The edges of the pilasters are decorated with shaped panels and relief crosses. They are separated by an inter-floor cornice and topped with decorative domes in the form of octagonal tent towers. The wall paintings and decorative furnishings of the church have not survived. The dimensions of the building are 24.0 x 12.5 m.

During the Soviet era, the church housed a fodder warehouse and was under the jurisdiction of the Shakhovsky village council. Now, thanks to the efforts of the village residents, the Intercession Church is being restored. In 2014, a state historical and cultural examination is planned to include the church in the register of historical and cultural monuments.
