The village of Pokrovka was founded in 1799 by settlers from various provinces, including Ryazan, Tambov, Voronezh, Kursk, and Penza. In March 1835, at a meeting of the residents, it was decided to build a wooden church in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the thriving village. The initiative for the construction was taken up by local resident Potap Panferov. For eight years, he and his fellow villagers corresponded with provincial authorities, discussing the need for the church, facing shortages of funds and materials, as well as shortcomings in the project. Only after collecting 1,500 signatures was permission granted for construction. In 1843, the building of the church began, and it was consecrated on October 14, 1848, by Archpriest Alexei Rozanov. In 1931, during difficult times, the church was closed, the bell tower and domes were removed, and the building was repurposed as a school gym. During the perestroika years, the villagers appealed to the authorities for the return of the church. A significant contribution to its reopening was made by the believer Yevdokiya Lupanidina. On July 23, 1991, the building and surrounding area were returned to the faithful. With the help of parishioners and benefactors, the ruined church was restored and was consecrated again on September 14, 1995. The first service after the restoration took place on August 2, 1992.
