Near the Nikolskaya church stands the modest Pokrovskaya church with an altar dedicated to the holy prophet Elijah. Initially, the Nikolsky temple was intended to be unheated, while a winter church in honor of the Intercession of the Mother of God was planned to be built nearby, which was completed in 1825. It became a tradition in Russia, originating from the Suzdal lands during the development of urban architecture, to erect two churches: one for winter and one for summer. The Pokrovskaya church, modest in height, with feminine and plastic forms and moderate rustication of the walls, harmoniously complements and emphasizes the majestic and masculine appearance of the neighboring Nikolsky temple.
