The village of Pozharskoye is located by a pond, 8 versts from the district town and 128 versts from the provincial capital. In 1585, Prince Ivan Mikhailovich Glinsky transferred the village of Pozharskoye and the village of Klimovo to the Trinity-Sergius Monastery. Since 1764, Pozharskoye has become a state-owned village.

The church in Pozharskoye existed at the time of its transfer to the monastery; it was dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin and had an altar in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist. This church is mentioned in the land books of 1628 and 1629, as well as in the census books of 1678 and 1708. In 1769, a new wooden church was built on its site, also dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin.

In 1813, the wooden church was replaced with a stone temple, which still exists today. This temple has two altars: one in the cold section, dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin, and the other in the warm altar, in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. All church documents have been preserved: copies of the metric books since 1803 and confession lists since 1828.
