The church in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was located in the 4th Deanery of the Buzuluk District of the Samara Diocese and was founded in 1906. The villagers made bricks themselves in a shed next to the church. Masters would come, lay a layer of bricks, and leave for a year to let it set. They used local clay and lime, which was slaked for 3-4 years in special vats. Chicken eggs were added to the mortar, and only the whites were used for the exterior walls. Each household in the village contributed 20 eggs daily for the construction. The church was completed in 1914 and consecrated on September 29 of the same year. The construction was overseen by Archpriest Alexander Skobtsov, who was transferred to the village of Utevka after the work was completed, to the church in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica. In 1917 or 1918, he was killed on the church grounds after a service. The right side chapel of the Pokrovskaya church was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity, while the left was in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her icon 'The Seeking of the Lost.' In 1933, the church was closed during Bright Week, and the building was used by the collective farm as a warehouse. In 1994, the parish was reopened, and Archpriest Sergey Derzhavin became the rector. From 2001, the rector was Hieromonk Daniil Tkachev, and from 2006, Priest Dmitry Lapchinsky. Before the revolution, it is believed that priests Alexander and Nikolai Arkhangelsky served in the church, likely father and son. According to local elders, Priest Alexander was the son and served after the revolution; in the 1930s, he was brutally beaten by Red Army soldiers and soon died. A monk named Prokhor is also mentioned, who, after 1917, when many monasteries were dispersed, dug a cave near the village on the banks of the Samarka River and lived there. Locals brought him food, he prayed for them, and sometimes came to the village. Once, he was captured by Red Army soldiers, tied by his feet to a horse, dragged through the fields, mutilated with a knife, and thrown into a ditch, covered with dirt. For about six months, the villagers observed a pillar of light descending from the sky to the place where the monk's body was buried. Upon learning of this, local authorities ordered the body to be exhumed and reburied in an unknown location.
