The construction of the church began under the new owner of the village, Nikolai Vasilyevich Demidov, and was completed after his death in 1864. The church owned 36 desyatins of land, and the villages of Pokrovka, Kruttsy, and Petrovka were attached to it. Like many churches from the second half of the 19th century, it was built in the Russian-Byzantine style. The church had two altars: in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin and the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. The Feast of the Intercession has been known in Russia since the early 12th century, and the second altar is celebrated on July 6. The Vladimir Icon is revered as a great shrine and protector of the Russian land. The church was surrounded by a stone fence, and its bell tower housed five bells: one large and four smaller ones. One of the bells was a warning bell, with a rope reaching the ground for emergencies. Across the road from the church was a baptismal hut.

During the Soviet era, persecution of the church began, and in 1936 the church was closed. The bells were removed in the early years of the war, and the church was not used until the 1990s. The last priest was Father Alexander Ivanovich Speransky, who was arrested in 1937. After his arrest, he was never seen again: on January 27, 1938, he was executed.

In the mid-1990s, the revival of the church began. On December 4, 2007, new blue domes were installed, as is customary for Virgin churches. On December 23, 2007, the Archbishop of Arzamas and Nizhny Novgorod visited the Vorotynsk Deanery. Bishop Georgy inspected the church in the village of Pokrov-Maidan and blessed its revival.
