The village of Podgornoye, formerly a Cossack settlement, is located on the right bank of the Ural River. It was founded in October 1742 on the day of the Intercession to protect Russian borders from nomads. The village has a single landmark, a wooden church from the early 20th century, which has long been abandoned and is in a state of disrepair. The building is interesting because very thick beams were used in its construction, which have retained their reliability even after a century.

The Intercession Church, built from hewn timber in 1898, is dedicated to the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It looks unusual for the steppe regions of Orenburg, resembling a set piece from the film 'Viy.' The church is located in the center of the village of Podgornoye in the Kuandyk district and belongs to the Orsk diocese. Once operational, it was closed like many others. There are few old wooden churches left in Orenburg, and this is one of the few that has survived.

Restoration work has not yet begun, but specialists note that restoration is possible and will not require significant costs.
