Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Nozhkino

Фото 1
The Intercession Church in the village of Nozhkino was built of stone, as was the bell tower, in 1831 with funds from the church and donations from benefactors. A stone fence surrounds the church, and the cemetery is located one verst away from it, enclosed by a wooden fence. In the cemetery stands a wooden church on a stone foundation, dedicated to the holy and righteous prince Alexander Nevsky, built in 1879 with donations from local benefactors and the church elder, a peasant from the village of Korobovskoe, Ivan Fedorovich Chizhov. This church does not have its own clergy.

The Intercession Church has three altars: in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, Saint Nicholas, and Saint Martyr Paraskeva. A particularly revered relic is the icon of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, before which prayers are offered for the sick, and some of them receive healing. About 37 cases of such healings are documented in the church notebook.

The church has a steady income from interest amounting to 119 rubles and 65 kopecks from a capital of 2863 rubles and 15 kopecks. For heating the church, a forest wasteland in Nesterovo, covering 19 desyatins and 1940 square fathoms, was donated; however, logging there has been suspended by a decree of the Kostroma Spiritual Consistory dated August 7, 1900. There are also designated funds: Archpriest V. Zalesky donated a 4-percent bond from the State Commission for Debt Repayment worth 250 rubles for the repair of the cemetery church; a merchant from St. Petersburg, Mikhail Ivanovich Barabanov, donated a 5-percent bond worth 500 rubles for conducting liturgy in the Nikolai chapel on Thursdays in memory of him and his family, and after his death, for their repose; according to the will of peasant Anastasia Sergeevna Gushchina from the village of Pykhino, 500 rubles were allocated to the State 4-percent annuity for conducting requiem liturgies for her and her relatives on Saturdays.
