The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Kyakhta is the only wooden church from the pre-revolutionary period that has survived in the Shigon district. Built in 1909, this parish church is designed in an eclectic style typical of exemplary projects of that time. Originally, the building was surrounded by an iron fence and likely had more complex finishes, a full bell tower above the narthex, and possibly five domes over the main volume. The church was closed in the late 1920s and early 1930s. During the war, it housed a grain warehouse, later a school and a club. Restoration of the church began in 2005; however, its original appearance, characteristic of early 20th-century church architecture, has not been fully restored, possibly due to a lack of data on the specific structure. Today, the original elements of the church include a traditional layout, an elongated square base with extensions for the narthex and altar, as well as preserved decorative details such as window frames on the facades. The church is active, with regular services held there.
