Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krasnokholm

Фото 1
In 1812, the Cossack stanitsa of Krasnokholm was founded in the Orenburg region. This settlement emerged thanks to the Cossacks who arrived to guard the border. From 1900 to 1914, with funds from the Cossacks of the stanitsa, a majestic church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built, timed to the centenary of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812. The completion of the construction and the beautification of the church were made possible by donations from parishioners. The temple is designed in a cross shape, with high pointed windows and an octagonal fence adorned with ornate metal grilles, and belongs to an eclectic architectural style. The church gives the village a unique appearance.

In the 1930s, the temple was closed and used as a grain storage facility. In the 1990s, the building was returned to the faithful. After renovations, with the blessing of Archbishop Valentin of Orenburg and Buzuluk, services resumed in the church in 2001.
