The first church was built in 1838 with funds from the parishioners from an old wooden church, transported from the village of Yukamenskoye. It was consecrated on November 12 of the same year in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. The stone church was erected in 1890 and 1900 at the initiative of priest Ioann Avraamov and with funds from the parishioners, according to the design of architect V.M. Druzhinin, who designed many churches in the Vyatka province. The church had two altars: the central one was consecrated on February 14, 1900, in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, and the right one, on February 3, 1909, in honor of Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. The frescoes of the church were done in the academic style, and the fragment "Return of the Prodigal Son" was preserved during restoration in the 1990s. In the mid-19th century, a representative of the Vasnetsov family served here, from which the famous artists Viktor and Apollinary Vasnetsov emerged.

On October 12, 1875, a church parish guardianship was established, and in 1902, a church school was opened. After the completion of the stone church in 1902, the old wooden Protection church was handed over to the Old Believers. It was closed on May 29, 1939, by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the UASSR, and the building was used as a club and cinema. The bell tower and porch were destroyed.

The wooden Protection Old Believer church was closed in 1936 and was initially used as a club, then as a post office. It no longer exists. Among the notable priests of the church were: Ioann Florov (1837, 1862), Ilya Pokrovsky (since 1843), Alexander Gavrilovich Chesnokov (since 1862), Vasily Kapitonovich Ammoreysky (since 1864), Nikolai Ioannovich Gerasimov (since 1872), Nikolai Fedorovich Diakonov (since 1874), Ioann Alexeyevich Vasnetsov (around 1874), Mikhail Nikolaevich Ammosov (since 1877), Ioann Ioannovich Avraamov (since 1888), Nikolai Petrovich Filimonov (since 1893), Mikhail Alexandrovich Ardashev (since 1902), Ioann Nikolayevich Ammosov (in the 1900s). Ioann Blinov tragically died in 1918 during the suppression of the Svyatogorsk uprising. In the Soviet years, before the church was closed, priests Donat, Mikhail, and Andrey served.

In 1990, the Protection church was returned to the church community, and after repairs, services resumed. The church has three altars: the central one consecrated in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God, and the side ones in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh and St. Righteous John of Kronstadt. The church was restored, domes with crosses were installed, and the frescoes were redone. The bell tower was restored according to historical drawings, and an iron fence was made, which was in the church's project but was not constructed during the building process.
