On June 22, 1765, the residents of the village of Mordovsky Klyuch in the Volsky district received permission from the Astrakhan Bishop Mephodiy to build a wooden church in the name of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1850, Count Mikhail Vasilyevich Orlov-Denisov, the former ataman of the Don Cossack army and a hero of the 1812 war, built a new spacious stone church with a bell tower on the site of the old wooden church. The altar in the temple was singular, dedicated to the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The parish was served by a priest and a psalmist, and their homes were communal. In 1887, Priest I.N. Rozanov opened a church school in the parish, where up to 20 boys were educated.

During the Soviet era, the church's bell tower was destroyed, and the building itself suffered significant damage. Currently, the Intercession Church is in a semi-ruined state. The previous rector of the parish, Priest Pyotr Mushket, equipped a spacious church in a converted private house, consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This church has an iconostasis, an altar, and choirs, and is equipped with all necessary church utensils for worship. The consecration took place on October 26, 2003, by priestly order.
