Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Kadyshyovka

Фото 1
The wooden church was built in 1709 at the initiative of local parishioners. At that time, a two-tiered structure of the temple with an apse was constructed, and possibly a refectory. In 1866, the church was "reconstructed": the cladding and facade decor, the dome completion of the temple, and the roofs were updated. During this period, a two-tiered bell tower was also erected. The main altar of the church is consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Virgin, while the warm refectory is dedicated to Saint Tikhon.

The church is located on the outskirts of the village, at the foot of a hilly ridge that surrounds the village from the southwest, amidst an abandoned cemetery. The small building of the parish three-part church features a compact layout. The church is wooden, built "in the paw" from round logs on a base of limestone stones bonded with mortar. The lower crowns of the log structure are made of thicker logs, and the facades are clad with planks. The roofs are covered with iron over wooden rafters and have a rather gentle slope.

The temple represents an "octagon on a square" with a five-sided apse. The square part is compact, two-light, and oriented widely. The windows of the first light are ordinary arched, one on each facade, to the east of the doorways. In the second light, small round windows are located one in the center of the facades. The octagon in plan is slightly narrower than the square and has four arched windows oriented towards the cardinal directions. It is topped with a wide octagonal onion dome with a low setting. At the top of the onion is a slender neck from a lost crowning finial. The altar is five-sided, narrower than the church, covered with five slopes. The refectory is wider than the square and is under a gable roof. The bell tower is three-tiered, columnar, and square in plan. The two lower tiers are blind, while the third has four arched openings for the bells. It is topped with a low four-sided tent, crowned with a small onion dome with a simple wooden eight-pointed cross on a large undercross apple. The base of the tent's sides is decorated with a decorative row of triangular pediments and keel-shaped kokoshniks.
