On the night of July 28, 2018, in the village of Ivanovka, Ivan-Nikolaevka, Yenotayevsky District of Astrakhan Region, the roof and dome of the wooden Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary collapsed. This church, built in 1781, is one of the oldest in the region. For a long time, it remained empty and abandoned, giving the impression of a dilapidated and hazardous structure. Now its dome lies on the ground, and the sky is visible through the windows. The threat of complete loss of this architectural monument is evident, but no one in the region is in a hurry to help.

The diocese provided a comment from Bishop Antoniy of Akhtubinsk and Yenotayevsk: "The church is beautiful but is in a severely dilapidated state. The main problem is that all the wood, including the load-bearing beams, is damaged by beetles. I have repeatedly raised the issue of dismantling to avoid destruction. However, this is a monument of architecture, and it cannot simply be taken apart: a project is required, a specialized organization must be hired, which entails significant costs. Nevertheless, the diocese has experience in preserving wooden monuments. The administration of Astrakhan Region regularly allocates funds for the restoration of the Church of the Healer Panteleimon in the village of Tinaki, where significant work has already been done. In the case of the Intercession Church, preserving the object was impossible." The diocese added that there is a prayer room in neighboring Nikolaevka where believers from both villages gather. The question of restoring the Intercession Church for worship has not arisen, as the prayer room accommodates the entire community.

The Intercession Church has a complex history. In 1885, the residents of Ivanovka purchased it from the Seroglazinsk Cossack Society along with the iconostasis, fence, watchman’s lodge, icons, and banners. Before that, it stood in Seroglazinsk for 56 years, having been moved from the Chernogryazin Cossack village, where it existed since 1781 and was consecrated in 1786. The church was closed in the 1930s, used as a warehouse, and then abandoned.
