The church was built in 2005 with the blessing of Bishop Feodosiy on the site of an old church that was destroyed during the Soviet years. The initiator of the construction was a native of the village of Abakumovka, the chairman of the board of trustees of the "Revival of Orthodox Sanctities" Fund, V. I. Andreev. A Sunday school also operates at the church.
