February 9, 2018, became a significant date for the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, which is being built in the village of Khakhaly. On this day, the Divine Liturgy was held here for the first time. February 9 is also the day of the transfer of the relics of St. John Chrysostom. For this event, the church was thoroughly prepared: the necessary utensils were placed in the altar, and an icon of the feast was installed in the prayer hall. The service was conducted by the rector of the church in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God from the village of Svetloe, Priest Evgeny Trofimov. He was assisted by the choir director Sergey Petrov, altar servers Damian Lochikhin and Alexey Loginov, as well as reader Oleg Frolov. At the end of the service, Sergey Petrov read an article from the Nizhny Novgorod Diocesan Gazette dated April 15, 1898, which mentioned that on February 3 of that year, the Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin in the village of Khakhaly, Semenovsky district, was consecrated. Thus, 120 years ago, a church was opened, destroyed during the years of anti-religious persecution, and now a new church has been erected in its place.
