The Intercession Church is first mentioned in documents from 1695. In the census of that time, it is listed in the village of Zykova, also known as "Intercession Village on Upper Uktus," "Uktus Village," or "Upper Uktus Village."

In 1721, Tatishchev, planning the construction of a large iron factory on the Iset River, established a fortification on the site of the former village of Upper Uktus, naming it Gorny Shchit and placing dragoons from the Uktus regiment there. Gorny Shchit quickly developed, and to meet the spiritual needs of the residents, a new wooden church was built in 1726, which stood until the winter of 1828 when it burned down.

On April 14, 1828, a decree was issued commissioning architect Mikhail Pavlovich Malakhov to design a stone church in the Gorny Shchit settlement. The construction of the church in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin began on May 21, 1830, and was completed in 1837. The church was located in the center of the settlement on a spacious square, surrounded by a stone fence with marble columns and an iron grille, with fir trees growing around it.

In the 1860s, Gorny Shchit was visited by Dmitry Mamin, the future writer Dmitry Narkisovich Mamin-Sibiryak. He came to study at the Yekaterinburg Spiritual Seminary and visited his grandfather Stepanov Semyon Stepanovich, who served as a deacon in the Intercession Church. The writer described the church as a tall white stone bell tower with two floors: a warm winter church below and a cold summer church above. Next to the church was his grandfather's wooden house, covered with pine shingles.

In the early 20th century, the Intercession Church went through difficult times. On July 1, 1918, on the day of Saints Cosmas and Damian, a gang of Hungarians burst into the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Borovskoye. They seized the priest Arkady Garyaev, who was serving the liturgy, and brutally dealt with him. In 2002, Arkady was canonized by the Synod as a priest-martyr.

In August and September 1937, the church was closed. The bells were removed, valuables were looted, and icons were burned. Some parishioners preserved icons and returned them after 60 years. During this time, the building was used as a granary and a club. In 1993, thanks to the efforts of the church community, the church was returned to the faithful. Restoration was carried out with the funds of local residents and entrepreneurs.

On April 17, 2011, the church in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin was recognized as a cultural heritage site of the Sverdlovsk region. Today, in the Intercession Church, as it was a hundred years ago, there is a Sunday school, an Orthodox library, and a mercy service "Pokrovtsy."
