The Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God on the River Sherna was built of stone in 1748. The first mentions of the church in Yelts date back to the early 17th century. July 21 marks the Appearance of the Icon of the Holy Mother of God in Kazan. On this day, a festive prayer service will take place in Yelts at the chapel of the Kazan Mother of God, located behind the altar of the Holy Intercession Church across the road in the ravine. The service will be led by Bishop Innocent of Alexandrov and Yuriev-Polsky.

The architectural project of the chapel was developed and implemented by the well-known patron from Kirzhach, director of the local printing house, Evgeny Fedorov. He built the chapel in memory of his mother, Natalia Vasilievna, who is buried in the cemetery of the village of Yelts. The chapel will be consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and has a second name, "Candle in the Hollow." Evgeny Fedorov has many connections to Yelts: his relatives lived here, the second production complex of the Kirzhach printing house, where about 50 people work, is located here, and the fruit and berry garden "Kirzhel" is situated nearby. The patron and his team participated in the restoration of the local Intercession Church. In 2003, Fedorov's mother was buried near the church.

The idea to create a baptismal chapel in memory of his mother in the shape of a candle came to Fedorov in 2016 after the construction of the "Printing Bridge" in the center of Kirzhach. The location for the chapel was chosen unusually: not on a hill, as is customary in Orthodox architecture, but in a hollow by the River Sherna, not far from the Intercession Church. The wooden part of the chapel reaches 18 meters in height, and with the dome and cross, it is about 20 meters tall. A wooden platform will be built around it, and on the sides, there will be stairs leading to the baptismal pools, also leading to the River Sherna, which is about 150 meters away. A 30-meter staircase leads from the village of Yelts to the chapel. The consecration of the chapel is scheduled for July 21, 2020, on the day of the celebration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
