The Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God in the town of Dubovka, Volgograd region, was built in 1850 by merchant Kulakov as a cemetery church and miraculously avoided destruction. In 1930, it was closed and used as a diesel power station, and in 1950 it was abandoned.

The parish was revived in 1988. Restoring and bringing this ancient church, a monument of 19th-century architecture, back to order required years of hard work and significant funds. Father Sergey played an important role in the restoration of this unique monument. Together with his wife, they painted icons for other churches to raise funds for the restoration of their own church. The church was transformed: a new iconostasis appeared, with icons created by Father Sergey, and a chapel, bell tower, and Sunday school were built. In 2008, the rector of the church, Archpriest Sergey Ermakov, was awarded the title of "Honored Artist of Russia." In 2007, he painted several icons depicting the holy martyr Nikolai Popov, the first canonized saint of the Volgograd diocese among the new martyrs and confessors of Russia of the 20th century.
