The reason for the construction of the church at this site was a tragic event. In 1997, school graduate Marina Shirokova was murdered nearby. Her parents initiated the construction of a church at the site of their daughter's death. The laying of the church was performed by Metropolitan Nikolai of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas in 1998. However, active construction only began in 2002 thanks to the financial support of the Bor Glass Factory, provided by director Valery Torbeev.
