In 1733, a wooden church was built in the village of Bolshoye Tumanovo in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to the stories of the locals, who heard about it from their ancestors, it stood on the site of the current monument to fallen soldiers. The old church had one chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The modern church was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is known that construction began in 1874, as stated in the "Church News of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese" from 1888: "the second stone church, in honor of the Epiphany of the Lord, was built in 1874-1879, with three altars."

Construction was carried out in stages. First, the summer church was erected, then the winter church, consisting of two chapels: the Intercession and the Nicholas. The building was fully completed in 1906. The stone church has three chapels: in honor of the Holy Trinity, the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.

In 1885, a church parish school was built next to the church, a small two-story building. The first floor housed apartments for teachers, while the second floor contained classrooms. The education lasted three years, and the number of students gradually increased from 20.

The bell tower was built in the 20th century and completed in 1919 with the efforts of the villagers. Brick was needed for the construction of the church, which was made from red clay brought in by carts. An artel of icon painters arrived from Moscow for the church's frescoes.

The first priest was Archpriest Alexey Nikitich Aleyev, who served in the old wooden church. It is known that on October 3, 1912, the church was visited by a bishop.

The church was closed in 1937, with Father Sergey being the last priest. The locals continued to visit the church, and the last service was held on Easter in 1938. After that, services were banned, and the doors were boarded up. The icons were taken home and hidden by the parishioners, but the church utensils remained inside. In the 1930s and 1940s, the church was not subjected to looting.

In the 1960s, a warehouse for wine and vodka products was placed in the church's narthex. The church was repeatedly threatened with destruction, but it was saved by representatives of the local collective farm authorities, who warned the residents about the impending demolition, and they defended the church.

The church was reopened on the feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1989. The consecration was conducted by the vicar bishop of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, Erofei. The church was restored.

On September 14, 2013, the Divine Liturgy was served in the church by Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas.
