The village of Klyuchishi is the largest in the Simbirsk district both in terms of population and the area of land it occupies. The name of the village is connected with the many springs that flow in this area and are abundant in water. Previously, some nearby springs were home to trout, but due to overfishing by local residents, they have completely disappeared.

The main occupation of the locals is agriculture, however, potato production is also actively developed here: vast fields are sown with potatoes, and in a good harvest, up to half a million poods are collected. There are 22 grinding establishments and 4 starch factories operating in the village and its surroundings. Among the industrial enterprises, there are 4 water-powered flour mills, two of which on Popov Klyuch and Sredninsky Klyuch were built back in the 18th century. There was also a steam mill, but it burned down in 1893. Five sheepskin factories are engaged in the processing of sheepskins and pelts in large volumes. Additionally, local peasants are actively involved in beekeeping, and some owners have more than a hundred hives in their apiaries.

In the 1830s, the provincial authorities opened a craft school in the village, which accepted boys from all settlements of the provincial department not only from the Simbirsk district but also from other districts of the province. Those who completed the course received certain benefits. However, after the announcement of the regulation on February 19, 1861, the craft school was closed, and its property was sold. In exchange, a women's school was opened in the same year, while the men's school has existed since 1839.

Since the founding of the village, there have been three churches. The first was consecrated in 1712, the second was built in 1770 and donated to the fire victims of the village of Nazaykina in 1879. The third, a stone church, was built with the funds of local residents and consecrated on June 21, 1872, in the name of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary with three chapels. The church parish owns 120 desyatinas of arable land. Next to the current church stands a small stone chapel, surrounded by a spacious fence, where clergymen are now buried.

The village has been visited twice by High Persons of the Imperial House. On September 7, 1824, Emperor Alexander I, passing from Simbirsk to Samara, stopped here for lunch, and on June 25, 1837, the Heir Tsarevich Alexander Nikolayevich, the future Alexander II, listened to the divine service here and visited the provincial office.
