In the center of modern Bogorodsk stands a temple dedicated to the icon of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary. In the early 1990s, when the revival of Orthodox traditions began in Russia, this new church appeared in Bogorodsk. At that time, an Orthodox community formed in the district center, which appealed to the City Executive Committee with a request to build an Orthodox church. However, due to a lack of funds, the construction was rejected. Since there was not a single functioning church in the city, the authorities decided to transfer a 19th-century building in the city center to the community. Thus began the history of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The old building, which previously served as the office of the Sheremetevs, a shelter, a real school, and during the Soviet era, School No. 10, was handed over to the believers and reconstructed. In 1991, the construction of the Intercession Church began. The reconstruction project was developed by Professor of Architecture Valentin Vitalyevich Kurbatov. The interior and exterior decor, as well as the interiors, were created by restoration artists under the guidance of Andrei Gennadyevich Filippov. In 1992-1993, the church underwent restoration, involving restoration architects Andrei Albertovich Anisimov and Tatyana Mikhailovna Belyaeva. The interior decoration of the church was carried out by craftsmen from Sofrino. In 1992, a Sunday school opened at the church.

Among the church icons, there are many ancient ones donated by parishioners who preserved their faith during the years of godlessness. Such icons include the main shrine of the church, the icon of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary, as well as the icons of the Kazan Mother of God, a wedding icon from the family of the Bogorodchans Rozhdestvenskys, the Iberian Mother of God, Seraphim of Sarov, Nicholas of Myra, and others.
