The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bartenyovka, according to local residents' memories, was spacious and cozy. The exterior of the church was clad in larch boards and painted blue. It was located in the center of the village, on a hill, surrounded by hamlets: Akhalik, Voloboev, Ignatov, Balbetov, and Tatarki. In 1914, before the start of World War I, repairs were made to the church with funds from parishioners, and a fence was built. The fence columns were made of local stone, and colorful glass spheres were placed on each of them, beautifully shimmering in the sun. These spheres remained intact until the church was closed in 1929. The sound of the bells was so powerful that 'the feet carried themselves to the church.' The bell ringers, possessing musical ear, were also harmonists in the village. On clear days, the sound of the bells could be heard in neighboring villages: Ishkovka, Nikolaevka, and Chuvichi. By the sound of the bells, people determined where it was coming from. On Saturdays, work ceased until the ringing of the bells began. The bells rang an hour or two before the service, and from that moment all activities stopped, even during the harvest; people returned home from the fields. Not everyone managed to come to church on Saturday, but on Sunday, dressed up and clean, they went to the morning service with their children. 'Forgive, save, and protect' were the most common words in people's communication.

On the church grounds, priests and respected villagers were buried. In 1966-1968, when a water pipeline was being laid to Zhigaevka and part of the trench passed through the former church territory, several burials were discovered. In 2002, a cross with a plaque was installed at the site of the former church: 'Here stood the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Destroyed in 1938.' A fence was built around the cross.
