The village of Barnevskoye in the Shadrinsk district is located 225 versts east of the diocesan city and 12 versts from the district town, on the right bank of the Iset River, near the confluence of the Barneva River, from which the village gets its name. The founding of the village of Barnevskoye dates back to 1683, when Fedyka Mazikhina, dragoons, white-horse Cossacks, arable peasants, and elder Davydka Shakhmatyev were permitted to build the Barnevskaya sloboda and use the surrounding lands.

The exact time of the founding of the first church in Barnevskoye is unknown, but it likely coincides with the establishment of the village itself. The first wooden church was built on a hill by the Iset River, not far from the mouth of the Barneva, and there was a cemetery nearby. This site is now eroded by rivers, and only the remains of graves on the right bank remind of the former cemetery.

In 1751, another wooden church was built on the site of the first church in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, consecrated in 1763. In 1785, a warm chapel in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker was arranged in the refectory part of this church. In 1827, due to its dilapidated state, the church was dismantled and sold for firewood to the Shadrinsk bell and casting factory.

A stone two-story temple was laid in 1814. By 1816, the lower floor was completed, and on August 4 of that year, it was consecrated by Bishop Justin of Perm in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. However, two days later, the vaults in the central part collapsed, damaging the floor and partially the walls, although the altar remained intact. Since the wooden church was already unsafe, the parishioners decided to arrange a chapel in the surviving western part of the new church in honor of the Nativity of Christ, which was permitted by the diocesan authority, and the altar was consecrated in May 1817. In the summer of that year, work began on restoring the vaults and constructing the second floor, for which the walls were reinforced with buttresses. The upper floor with the bell tower was completed and consecrated in 1831 in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In 1873, the church was threatened by a fire that destroyed a large part of the village; the altars in the lower floor were damaged, and the altar of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker had to be consecrated anew. The altar of the Nativity of Christ was abolished as temporary. The iconostasis of the upper church is distinguished by artistic work and rich decoration, all arranged with the funds of the parishioners.

The church is surrounded by a stone fence with iron grilles, built between 1866 and 1869, at the corners of the western side of which are two stone wings: one houses the church pantry, and the other a school. There is a small stone chapel in the village on the site of the second wooden church, and in the village of Cheremisovskaya, there is a church-parish school.
