The settlement was founded around 1680. During the period of the Zhiguli Cossack freedom, boats were transported here between the Volga and the Usa, shortening the river route by 230 kilometers. This is how the settlement got its name. In the early 18th century, a large stone church was built in honor of the Intercession of the Mother of God, which was visible from the Volga for many kilometers. Russian merchants, passing by, would dock at the shore, pray in the church for successful trade, and donate for its upkeep.

In 1936, the church was closed and destroyed. That same year, after the church's destruction, a spring appeared at the foot of the mountain, right at the water's edge, which the locals named "Tears of the Mother of God." Many years later, when builders were leveling the area near the destroyed church, a grader unexpectedly uncovered an ancient burial site. The remains were collected and reburied near the church, where a wooden cross was erected.

Local historians believe they have managed to determine the approximate date of the church's construction. A local resident, Valentin Bogdanov, while sorting through broken bricks, found an iron plate with the date 1711. In the 1990s, thanks to the efforts of priest Vladimir Semenov and volunteers, a new brick church was built next to the ruined church in honor of the Intercession of the Mother of God.

In 1999, priest Viktor Shibalov consecrated the spring, and since then, an annual water blessing service has been held at the spring.

Father Viktor mentioned that there is an underground tunnel beneath the ruined church, built several centuries ago. In ancient times, it was used by bandits and fishermen to discreetly reach Zhigulevsk. During the clearing of the tunnel, young explorers found cross pendants, ancient coins, and buttons. During the Soviet era, the tunnel was blown up several times.
