According to tradition, the original church was founded in 1630 by the Moscow landowner Naum Plescheyev, who transferred the chapel of the Tolga Monastery from the village of Yuryevo to the village of Naumovo. The wooden church stood until 1799.

In 1799, a stone, five-domed church with a tiered bell tower was built on the site of the lost wooden church. However, the domes and upper tiers of the bell tower did not survive.

The church had two altars: in honor of the Praise of the Most Holy Theotokos and Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the Miracle Worker. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, transferred from Bolshie Solei in 1836, the Image of the Savior Not Made by Hands from the ancient chapel, and the icon of Saint Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow, which Naum Plescheyev's grandson brought from Moscow, were particularly venerated.

Naum Mikhailovich Plescheyev was a historical figure: he was the first to break through with the Cossacks of Ataman Korela as a messenger of Grishka Otrepyev, False Dmitry I, and forcibly made the Moscow boyars swear allegiance, which ultimately led to the overthrow of the Godunov dynasty and the beginning of the Time of Troubles in Russia.
