Church of Peter and Paul in Pavlovsk

In 1843, the Ochyorsk chronicler G.I. Kamensky wrote that on October 6, construction of a wooden church began in the Pavlovsk factory, and its consecration took place on June 27, the day of Saints Peter and Paul, coinciding with the name day of the factory's founder, Pavel Alexandrovich Stroganov. However, on May 1, 1861, the church burned down due to a lightning strike.

In 1862, the church was restored, and the building has survived to this day, although it is in an emergency state and was used as a factory gym.

In the early 20th century, the Okhansk zemstvo conducted a census in Pavlovsk, revealing 2,672 residents. The old church could not accommodate everyone, so it was decided to build a new temple next to it. The contractor was Alexander Grigoryevich Luzin, who in the spring of 1900 brought a team of bricklayers from Nizhny Novgorod. There were no brick houses in the Pavlovsk factory, and the team set up brick production.

All households in the village were taxed 1 ruble per year for construction. Local merchants and workshop owners made significant contributions, and collectors of donations traveled to cities and villages of the Russian Empire.

The work was carried out in two stages: two years were spent making bricks, followed by a year of erecting the walls. The temple had three altars. In October 1914, in the presence of a large crowd, crosses were installed on the domes, with gilding done on-site. The installation work at height was carried out by A.G. Luzin. Finishing works continued for three years, icons were ordered, and candlesticks and furniture were made. Local carpenter P.F. Demenev created the iconostasis, and bells were raised to the belfry, the largest of which weighed 102 poods.

By June 29, 1917, on the day of the church's founding, wealthy contributors provided utensils, vestments for priests, and sacred vessels. However, the artistic painting of the walls could not be completed, as donations decreased due to the factory's closure and the departure of many residents.

The decree of the SNK on February 5, 1918, "On the separation of church from state and school from church" changed the situation. Religious feelings began to be considered relics of the past. The renovation movement in 1922 did not improve the situation. Among those who broke with the church were clergy such as L.P. Anisimov and I.P. Soromotin.

In 1938, the church was closed by the decision of the village council. Icons and books were mostly burned, and the bells were removed. The large bell was damaged and cracked when it fell. That same year, the crosses from the domes were removed by the builder's son, Grigory Luzin, which brought him much reproach.

For almost 50 years, until 1992, the church housed workshops of a vocational school. In the 1950s, an extension was made, distorting its appearance.

In 1992, the temple was returned to the believers. L.V. Chepanov brought the miraculous icon "Burning Bush," and artist A.S. Belyaev restored the icon "Deposition from the Cross," which was used as a partition.
