The history of the first churches of the Buzuluk fortress is sad and typical for its time. Both were destroyed in a fire that occurred in Buzuluk on May 26, 1785. This happened during the visit of the head of the Orenburg region, Baron Igelstrom. During a cannon salute, one of the artillerymen dropped a fuse onto the gunpowder storage. The explosion caused a fire that, according to the first Buzuluk local historian K. Evlentev, soon turned all of Buzuluk into ruins. In 1791, a new church was built on this site in honor of the Archangel Michael with an altar in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, where the Nikolsky garden is now located at the corner of M. Gorky and Oktyabrskaya streets.

In the Church of the Archangel Michael, in 1824, His Imperial Majesty Alexander I Blessed prayed, and in 1837, the heir, the future Sovereign Alexander II the Liberator, accompanied by the poet V.A. Zhukovsky and V.A. Perovsky, a well-known governor-general and friend of the poet. In 1833, A.S. Pushkin passed through Buzuluk. Over time, the temple fell into disrepair, and in 1862 it was moved from the former main square, now Nikolsky garden, to the fairground square, where the entertainment center 'Galaktika' is now located in the building of the former cinema 'Beryozka'. The building was renovated, the refectory was expanded with the active participation of Vasily Ivanovich Blinnikov, a Buzuluk merchant of the 2nd guild, and two altars were arranged in it: the main one, in honor of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, consecrated on October 25, 1864, by Archpriest Alexander Tikhomirov, and the altar in the refectory in honor of the holy apostles Peter and Paul.

In 1937, the Peter and Paul Church was closed, and in 1945 it was reopened. In 1961, despite the desperate resistance of the parishioners, the temple was destroyed at night. Later, a cinema 'Beryozka' was built on its site, which has now become the entertainment center 'Galaktika'. A memorial cross and stone have been erected at the site of the former Peter and Paul temple.
