The Church of Peter and Paul, which has survived to this day, is only slightly younger than the Friday Church, the oldest building in Bolshoye Selo. Until 1760, there was a wooden church with the same name, mentioned in documents from the first half of the 17th century. In 1760, the local elder, peasant Polunin, built a stone church of Peter and Paul in its place, with an altar dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin. In its composition, it resembled the Friday Church located on the opposite bank of the river, creating a unique architectural pair, as was customary in the village of Bolshiye Saly.

Externally, the Peter and Paul Church was very similar to the Friday Church. It was a small tiered temple. An inventory from 1806 describes its architecture as follows: "The church has a quadrangular shape, topped with an octagon, on which there is also an octagonal lantern with eight windows without grilles. At the church, at the end of the refectory, above the entrances, there is a stone bell tower covered with iron and consisting of three floors."

In 1827, the Church of Peter and Paul was significantly rebuilt and expanded. It transformed from a small elegant tiered structure into a massive cubic-shaped temple with high classical porticos. This altered building from 1827 has survived to this day.
