The exact date of the appearance of the first church in honor of the holy great martyr Paraskeva, known as Friday, is unknown. According to records from 1676 and 1683, there were two wooden churches: a cold one with seven domes in honor of Saint Paraskeva Friday and a warm single-domed one with altars in honor of the Prophet Elijah and Archdeacon Stephen, as well as a bell tower with nine bells. All of them were destroyed by fire in 1715. The first stone Friday church was built between 1720 and 1748 and stood for almost a century.

In 1807, the Sukhona River changed its course, forming a strait between the Friday church and the Friday village. In 1872, the river eroded the banks near the Friday church so much that it was necessary to remove the crosses and bells and begin dismantling the bell tower. A new five-domed Friday church building was constructed at the corner of Semenovskaya, Engels, and Uspenskaya streets, now Soviet Avenue, between 1873 and 1889. On July 20, 1876, the newly built church in honor of Paraskeva Friday was consecrated.
