In the Yaroslavl region, in Bolshoye Selo, there is a famous church dedicated to St. Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday. The temple is located on the right bank of the Yukhota River, among an ancient parish cemetery. Previously, there stood a small wooden church, and the settlement was then called Bobylya.

The first mentions of this church date back to 1631, when the Yukhota volost came under the administration of the palace department. The lands of Bolshoye Selo, Uglich district, Yukhota volost, and Yaroslavl province were granted by Emperor Peter the Great to Field Marshal Boris Petrovich Sheremetev for his military merits. From that moment, all these lands became his property and could be inherited. After the transfer of the volost, Alexei Protopov, a clerk, compiled a description of these lands in 1706. From his records, it follows that at that time there were two wooden churches behind Yukhota: the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and St. Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday. In 1747, with the funds of local parishioners, a stone Paraskeva church was built.

The church has one dome, which is characteristic of many Russian churches, and is designed in the form of an "octagon on a square," which ensures its stability and grandeur. The interior decoration is done in the Baroque style. Special attention is drawn to the proportions of the church: the lower square is low, with an arched entrance, decorated with a thin "porebrik" belt and serves as the foundation for several octagonal bell tiers.

Inside the church, there is an altar dedicated to Paraskeva Friday. Some icons depict the image of the great martyr Paraskeva, which is located on the reverse side of the icon of the Mother of God; she is depicted with a halo and symbols of faith in her hands. The second altar is dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, who is especially revered by the parishioners. During his lifetime, Nicholas was the Archbishop of Myra in Lycia and became famous for miracles.

Today, the Church of Paraskeva Friday continues to operate, being the oldest architectural monument in Bolshoye Selo.
