Church of St. Paraskeva Friday in Belozersk

Фото 1
On the eastern outskirts of Belozersk lies the former Yamskaya sloboda. From here, a road began that led to the crossing over the Sheksna River to Kirillov, and then north, circling Lake Beloe through Krokhinsky Posad. These roads were serviced by the post drivers living in the sloboda. In the 1720s, the construction of a new stone church in honor of the holy martyr Paraskeva Friday began. This church also serves as a memorial to the Belozers who fell during the Time of Troubles while defending their land.

The Church of St. Paraskeva Friday was built in 1795 and was assigned to the Trinity and John the Baptist Church. The main church with the altar is consecrated in honor of the martyr Paraskeva, known as Friday, while the chapel is dedicated to Alexius, the man of God. During the Soviet era, the walls of the refectory and chapel were completely destroyed. The church was closed in 1928. In the late 1980s, restoration work began, which was halted in 1991.
