The ensemble of the church includes the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Golutvino, a bell tower, a priest's house, a fence, and gates.

The stone church was built in 1686 and 1692 on the site of a wooden Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, mentioned since 1625. In 1686, a chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas was constructed on the southern side of the main church. Initially, the stone church was a compact, asymmetric combination of volumes. It was a five-domed square with a three-part apse, where the main altar is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The bell tower was adjacent to it and the southern chapel, connected by a refectory. The window frames were topped with kokoshniks on half-columns, and the walls were adorned with rich brick decor.

The three-tiered bell tower was built separately in 1769. It was topped with a hexagonal tent with beveled corners and a small cupola. The bell tower became the dominant feature of the complex, marking the southern end of the fence, while the northern end was closed off by three-part gates and the priest's house.

The first major reconstruction of the church took place in 1772, when the refectory and southern chapel received baroque decorative finishing, and the entire volume of the building was completed with a white stone cornice. By 1822, a one-story priest's house with a basement and mezzanine, designed in the Empire style, appeared in place of the priest's house.

In 1823, according to the project of architect F. M. Shestakov, the refectory was expanded with a northern chapel in the Empire style, consecrated in the name of the Tikhvin Mother of God. At that time, a narthex was built on the western facade in front of the entrance, and the large vault of the refectory rested on two columns.

In 1839, the external appearance of the church was changed: the 17th-century decor was removed, the walls were plastered, and styled in the Empire style.

In 1863, new paintings appeared inside the square, with painting work also conducted in 1885 and 1899.

In 1923, the church was closed. In the 1930s, the church was damaged: five domes were destroyed, and the bell tower was dismantled. In the 1960s, along with the fence and gates, the priest's house was also dismantled.

In 1976, a gradual restoration of the church began, which was finally completed by 1999.
