The Church of Nicholas from Usokha, built in 1536, is a significant monument of the ancient Opotsky district. Originally erected in 1371, it was restored after a fire in 1536. At that time, it was the second largest building after the Trinity Cathedral. Its foundation is now hidden under layers accumulated since the 16th century, as noted by Yu.P. Spegalsky.

This large single-domed church with three apses has a northern chapel in the name of the Meeting of the Lord, and on the southern side, there may have been a warm chapel in the name of John the Theologian. Both chapels had porches, and the narthexes were connected by a gallery. However, changes in the 17th and 19th centuries significantly altered the appearance of the church. Restorations in 1946 and 1974, led by architects Yu.P. Spegalsky, V.A. Lebedeva, and B.S. Skobeltsev, returned it to its ancient forms characteristic of 16th-century Pskov church architecture. The church has preserved a unique annex known as the "chapel of the unquenchable candle," featuring an image of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, before which lamps and candles always burned.

Inside the church, the high under-dome space stands out with massive pillars and arches. In the lunettes, there are voice holes, ceramic vessels embedded in the walls to improve acoustics and create a light-shadow ornament. Recently, frescoes were discovered in the dome. The decor of the church, including the blades, "porch, runner, porch," "brows," and rolled streaks on the apses, adorned with the "Pskov necklace," emphasizes its belonging to the Pskov tradition, giving it uniqueness. The church is also distinguished by an elegant two-span bell tower on the northern wall.

This magnificent example of 16th-century Pskov architecture was created as an urban planning dominant on the Great Street of the city. The picturesque composition of the church resonated with the temples of Basil on the hill and the Odihria on the Pechersk courtyard, connected by the cozy street of Vragovka. Currently, the church with apses facing Soviet Street (formerly Great) is preserved as a museum object.
