Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Zelenodolsk

In August 2010, the foundation of a church dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was laid near the Avangard stadium. Back in the early 2000s, a group of believers chose a location for construction. However, lengthy negotiations with the administration did not lead to a compromise. Various locations were considered: the hillside behind the Victory Park, the city lakes, and K. Marx Street, but ultimately a plot behind the stadium was chosen. Initially, a small wooden church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was built there, but it could not meet the needs of the Orthodox residents of Zelenodolsk. It was decided to construct a spacious church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker nearby. The financing for the construction was taken on by L. Baryshev, the general director of the company 'Essens Production,' who timely provided the necessary funds, and the work began.

In May 2010, the foundation of the temple was laid, and in November, it was planned to raise it under the dome. However, the suppliers of the logs did not fulfill their obligations, and the work stopped. Thanks to the efforts of the dean of the Zelenodolsk district, Archpriest Svyatoslav Mirganiev, and the rector of the church, Priest Kirill Nazarov, construction continued. In April 2015, the dome with the cross was consecrated and raised, and on December 19, 2015, the first Divine Liturgy was held in the new church.
