The Assumption-Nicholas Church is the only Orthodox church that has survived in Yalutorovsk and the Yalutorovsk district during difficult times. The clerical record "About the Church in the Name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker at the City Yalutorovsk Cemetery" from 1915 states that the church was built in 1872 by parishioners of the city churches. This stone one-story building has an iron roof, while the wooden bell tower is located separately. The church has one altar dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The Nicholas Church at the cemetery was small, as it did not anticipate a large number of parishioners: its length is 12.5 meters, width 6.6 meters, and height about 9 meters. It was under the care of the Sretensky Cathedral.

In 1924, changes began in the Yalutorovsk district. That year, the Sretensky Cathedral and the Ascension Church were closed, and then dismantled for construction materials for a bathhouse and the city House of Culture. The last rector of the cathedral, Father Nikolai Rumyantsev, became the rector of the Nicholas Cemetery Church after the closure and destruction of the cathedral.

In April 1937, the church underwent re-registration. But on December 29, 1938, the Omsk Regional Executive Committee ordered the closure of the Nicholas Church. Property was described and seized, crosses and bells were removed. For seven years, prayer services in Yalutorovsk were interrupted, and the church building was vandalized, with only the stone walls and roof remaining.

The year 1945 brought victory in the Great Patriotic War and changes in state policy towards believers. Yalutorovsk believers appealed to the authorities for the transfer of the cemetery Nicholas Church to their control. The City Council of Yalutorovsk responded that the church building was to be demolished and was unsuitable for use. However, correspondence with the authorities continued, and the regional council decided to transfer the church to the believers.

The Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church under the SNK of the USSR supported this decision, which was recorded in the resolution of June 27, 1945. On October 16, 1945, a contract was signed for the transfer of the church building and church property. The contract was signed by representatives of the city council and the parish, including the rector, Archpriest Vladimir Rozanov.

Archpriest Vladimir Vasilyevich Rozanov became the rector of the reopened church. One of the main tasks was the restoration of the church, and the number of believers grew. In 1946, a request was sent for permission to add a porch to the cemetery church, which was approved by the Council for the Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church.

By 1953, it became clear that the addition was insufficient, and in 1953-54, another extension was built in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Archpriest Vladimir Rozanov died on March 10, 1965.

Further work on the improvement of the temple was carried out under Archpriest Ilya Alexandrovich Ravelev, who was awarded for his diligent service to the Church. He died in January 1993.

Since 1989, the rector of the church has been Priest Evgeny Veselovsky, whose ministry was cut short on July 20, 1998. Since 1998, the rector has been Priest Georgy Sannikov, under whom the beautification of the temple continues. Since 2006, Priest Mikhail Ivanovich Bezukladnikov has been appointed as a staff cleric, and since 2002, Deacon Evgeny Anatolyevich Bobkov.

On June 8, 1999, an article appeared in the newspaper "Yalutorovsk Life," in which Priest Georgy and members of the Organizing Committee appealed to the residents of Yalutorovsk for charitable assistance in the repair of the church. From that day, work began on the restoration and beautification of the church, which was renewed with new colors and gilding of the domes.
