Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker in Ubezhitsy (Lost)

Фото 1
The church in the village of Ubezhitsy is one of the few in the area whose blueprints have not survived in archives. The wooden temple, dedicated to Nicholas the Wonderworker, was founded in 1777 and belonged to the Aleshkovskaya church. According to eyewitness accounts, the church was closed in the mid-1920s, and the icons were partially used by godless individuals as firewood to heat the local club. The temple stood until the mid-1990s, when it collapsed on a summer day during the funeral of a local resident, miraculously not hitting the car of one of the guests. The remains of the church were set on fire and, according to many residents, burned for several days.
