Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Tonshaev

Фото 1
The church is built of stone, with a stone bell tower and fence. It was erected in 1811, and between 1895 and 1901 it was reconstructed and expanded. Next to the church is an ancient cemetery intended for the clergy and honored parishioners. The parish cemetery is located a hundred fathoms from the church and is surrounded by a wooden fence. The church has three altars: in honor of St. Nicholas of Myra, the prophet Elijah, and Alexius, the Man of God. The main shrine of the temple is the icon of St. Nicholas, which, according to popular legends, appeared in the village of Bolshie-Oshkaty, where a procession is held on May 9.
