The village of Strakhovo in the Buzuluk district of the Samara province was founded in 1749 as a landowner's settlement. It was named after its founder, Lieutenant Vasily Mikhailovich Strakhov of the Penza regiment, who resettled peasants from the Simbirsk and Kazan districts to these lands. After his death, the estate passed to his widow Anna Ivanovna, and then to his sons Ivan and Alexander.

In 1781, a stone church with a bell tower was built with the funds of landowner Anna Ivanovna Strakhova. The main altar of the church was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas of Myra, and the chapel in honor of Archangel Michael. The clergy consisted of a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist, and the church owned 39 desyatins of arable land.

In 1856, the church was rebuilt, and in 1860, a church-parish school was opened, which was transferred to the zemstvo in 1869. On December 16, 1869, the Znamenskaya church from the village of Bolshoye Obukhovo was annexed to the Nikolskaya church in the village of Strakhovo.

By the end of the 18th century, the village was owned by the Strakhov brothers. In the early 19th century, the estate belonged to the writer Sergey Timofeevich Aksakov and his wife. Later, it became the property of the Samara governor Grigory Sergeyevich Aksakov, who was buried near the village's Nikolskaya church. After his death, the estate passed to his son Sergey. Strakhovo was a large noble economy.

On July 4, 1935, the presidium of the Petrovsky district executive committee granted the request of the Bogdanovsky village council and local residents to close the church in Strakhovo for use as a collective farm club.

By 2017, there were no residential houses left in the village of Strakhovo, and a recreation center was established on its outskirts. The church was destroyed, and near its ruins, at the presumed burial site of the Samara governor Grigory Sergeyevich Aksakov, a cross was erected with an inscription dedicated to his memory.
