The wooden church in Smolkovo, built in 1896 with funds from parishioners, was consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In the 1930s, the church was closed and looted. Later, it was decapitated, the upper tiers of the bell tower and the church's completion were demolished, and the building was repurposed as a warehouse. Currently, the church is abandoned, vacant, and deteriorating.

The church building is made of wood and stands on a high brick plinth, with a hipped roof and metal covering. The church belongs to the ship-type and is designed in an eclectic style. Decorative elements of the facades, such as window frames, cornices, and carved applied decor, are partially lost. The windows are adorned with wrought iron grilles, and the doors feature wrought products. The plinth is brick, the walls are hewn wood, and the facades are clad with planks. The roof is sloped, with a wooden truss system and metal covering; the doors are rectangular, and the windows are arched and octagonal wooden.
