The village of Shcherbakovo is located on both sides of the Iset River, 85 versts from Yekaterinburg and Kamyshlov, in a hilly area covered with small birch and partially pine forests. It has a healthy climate and black soil. The parish includes the village itself and the villages of Klyukina, 2 versts away, Chyetrskaya and Klyuchevskaya, 4 versts away.

About 300 years ago, there was a small Bashkir aul "Shcherbaki" at the site of the current village, consisting of three dozen poor huts surrounded by forest. Over time, with the resettlement of Russians from the central provinces of Russia, the Bashkir village transformed into a Russian one, retaining its original name. Initially, it belonged to the parish of the Kolchedan fortress church, now the village of Kolchedanskoye, 28 versts away. Only in 1700 was an independent parish established in the village, and it became known as the Shcherbakovskaya sloboda. The entire population of the parish, numbering 1,646 men and 1,651 women, belongs to the Great Russian tribe and consists of state peasants, retired and reserve soldiers. The main occupation of the parishioners is agriculture.

In 1705, through the efforts and funds of the parishioners, the first wooden church in honor of St. Nicholas the Bishop and Wonderworker was built and consecrated in 1708. In 1800, a side altar in honor of St. John the Prophet and Baptist was laid in the southern side of the church. After 114 years of existence, the wooden church began to decay. The old-timers describe it as a small church with a gable roof, resembling a house roof, with windows made of mica, making it dark inside. Seeing the church's deterioration, the parishioners decided to build a stone church at their own expense. It was laid in 1818 in honor of the same saint, but due to poor quality bricks and the contractor's dishonesty, construction was halted and only permitted in 1833. After the completion of construction in 1844, the church was consecrated in 1845.

The new church is shaped like a ship. In 1883, the altar walls were adorned with paintings, and in 1887, the church itself was decorated at the expense of the parishioners. The old wooden church, along with the iconostasis, was sold in 1846 to a new parish in the village of Tygysh for 200 rubles in banknotes, and a monument surrounded by a stone fence with iron grilles was erected in its place. In 1882, the iconostasis in the new church was updated at the expense of the parishioners. In 1853, the church was enclosed with a stone fence with iron grilles, costing the parishioners 1,830 rubles.

Among the church's antiquities, the following items are noteworthy: a Holy Gospel published in 1789, a tin vessel acquired at the church's founding, linen vestments, and bells cast in 1726 and 1732. Decrees in the church have been kept since 1721. The clergy consists of a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist, for whom there are two church houses. Since 1889, a church-parish school has been operating at the church.
