The Nikolskaya church was built long before 1758, during the time of Patriarch Nikon, around the year 1500. When it fell into disrepair, the memory of the deceased began to fade, and the church was moved to Sera. According to legend, a miraculous appearance of the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker occurred at the site of the current temple. The image of the Wonderworker has a special expression that penetrates the soul, and no matter from which side you approach, he always looks at you.

The architecture of the stone church likely replicates that of the wooden one: a quadrangular log structure, one dome almost sitting on the logs, and a roof. The wooden dome was replaced in the 1860s. The carpenters struggled with the wood, which was so strong that the axe could not penetrate it, although it stood for 60 years. The stone masonry of the church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1905.

The Church of the Prophet Elijah was also originally wooden. The Protection Church of the Prophet Elijah existed in Sera until 1500.

According to ancient documents, the village of Sera has a double name "Sera, also known as Berezovo," which is confirmed by land surveying books from 1777. The name of the village is likely connected to the river Serka. The area is rich in deciduous forests, and if cattle are not grazed or grass is not mowed, it quickly becomes overgrown with birch trees. During haymaking, many young birch shoots had to be cut near the villages of Vasilyevskaya and Nastasyino. The name Sera comes from the river Serka, which originates in pine forests where resin, "sira," is extracted from the pines. From Uglich to Serka, the soil is sticky and clayey, sometimes dark. The gray soil begins from the river Serka, especially close to the banks of the Volga and Serka. During thunderstorms, lightning is frequent. In ancient times, this area was part of the Uglich principality, then it became part of the Yaroslavl district in 1722, and in 1781, it was included in the Myshkin district. Since 1862, it has been listed in the Povodneva volost of the Myshkin district.

In 1813, 50 rubles were donated for the domestic militia.

In 1823, lightning damaged the spire and destroyed the tent-shaped octagon. In the Nikolskaya church, the gilding on the iconostasis was burned, and in the priest's residence, lightning split a century-old birch into small pieces. This occurred on June 25. The strike was so powerful that no one could stand on their feet in the houses.

In 1897, a new house for the priest was built on a stone foundation with an iron roof. Ignat Karaulov donated 800 rubles. The entire construction cost 1850 rubles. The log structures were also donated by Karaulov.
