The village of Vorontsovka, located in the Serdobsky district of the Saratov province, was founded in 1695. It belonged to Count Vorontsov, who resettled 20 families from the Oryol province here. Vorontsovka was also populated by peasants who previously belonged to Madame Shuvalova and settlers from the Ryazan province.

A warm stone church with two altars was built in the village. The main altar was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and the side altar was dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin. The church, with its stone bell tower, was built in 1826 with funds from the parishioners and stood on the highest point of the village, visible from afar. A brick fence was erected around the church, where clergymen were buried.

The church staff included a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist, who lived in church houses. The village had a zemstvo school and two parish schools.

The church was closed in 1929 during the collectivization period. The bells were removed, and the crosses from the dome and bell tower were taken down. The iron from the church roof was given to the collective farm. Since the 1930s, the church building has been used as a warehouse. The St. Nicholas Church is the oldest preserved monument of history and culture in the Yekaterinovsky district.
